And I haven't even been listening to Emilie Autumn lately.
Oh well, that's beside the point. The point is, well, I suppose I need to actually write something substantial before I decide what the point is. That's the way it usually works, yes?
I've been wondering lately, well, for the past ten minutes or so (probably a few hours by the time I post this), what colour would death be? I mean, most people would just say 'black', but I think that's just because it's the way he/she/it is presented. If you erased all previous image of death from your mind and then really really thought about it. What colour comes to mind? I won't tell you what colour I think of for another few posts. Because that would be influencing your thought process again, and the idea is to be able to think of it on your own. Not that it matters. Since no-one reads this, let alone leaves comments. Or I could be wrong. I could have ghosts. WooooOOooooOoooOOOOoooooohhh.
...
I think kids grow up far too quickly these days. Not that it's their choice to. Although I suppose that as a kid I always wanted to grow up quicker. It always felt like I was always going to be exactly the same forever and ever. I'm rather sad that it didn't work out that way. Anyways, that's not the point. The point is, that I think kids are being forced to grow up too quickly. I mean, look at what toy companies are pushing towards them these days! The other day, I saw a 'Barbie Bride Dress up-Set' - emphasis on bride - honestly! What are they trying to say? That every 6 year old girl should aspire to be a bride? In the olden days, sure, that was fine. But that was before we had our modern views of equality and the idea that women could be strong, and independent! What happened to that?
What fires me up even more is when I see make-up, yes, makeup of all things! In cutesy styles in the kids section. What's up with that? Are we trying to promote confidence issues at a young age? Do we really want young children to grow up feeling like they're just not pretty enough unless they're armed to the teeth with cakes of makeup?
It makes me sad - and angry - when I see things like that, on the shelves along with dress-up dolls and other such toys. Like it's normal. Like it's perfectly acceptable.
Hey, maybe I'm over-reacting, maybe it is normal and acceptable. But I don't think so, and I certainly don't agree with it if it is.
I just realised I've only given examples from the girls side of things, although, there's nothing wrong with a little boy playing dress-up with dolls either. Still, that's not widely accepted as the normal thing to do either.
Anyway, more generically, do you remember the dinosaur or really cutesy car that you used to beg mummy or daddy to give you a coin for so you could ride in (or on) it? Well, it's not a cutesy car or dinosaur anymore. It's a fancy car, with metallic paint and awesome things like that. So instead of begging mummy or daddy for a ride in 'the wiggles car' (which I don't necessarily agree with anyway) kids these days are asking for a ride in the latest model of porch or mercedes or whatever newfangled model of whatever we have these days. How about that... Are kids not allowed to like cute things anymore? It's just so... stupid if I'm being honest. We need to give kids more time to grow up, more time to have a childhood, and more time to think freely and form their own opinions of things. I think people need to understand that children are children , that they understand more than we give them credit for - of course it's different for each kid- (as mentioned in an earlier post) and that we need to give them time to have a childhood. People either expect too little or too much of them, and it definitely doesn't help for self confidence in the later years.
Anyway, that's all from me for now.
